Interactive Website for Chemistry Department Heads

If America is to remain competitive in this globalized economy it needs to fully develop and utilize the nation’s scientific and engineering talent. The lack of gender and ethnic diversity in faculty in chemistry departments across the country is an indicator that the field of chemistry is underperforming in attracting chemistry leaders to its ranks. This website is created to assist chemistry department chairs in achieving the goal of gender and ethnic equity in their departments.

The website, developed by COACh, builds on the results of the workshop on Racial and Ethnic Equity held in September 2007 and the Gender Equity workshop that was held in January 2005. It is intended to provide a confidential forum for chemistry department chairs to share the challenges and best practices in their attempts to diversify their faculty. It is also a mechanism for department chairs to report their departmental follow-up plans and progress made on issues raised at the workshop
